Privacy Policy

CaptainTandem ("we", "our", or "us") is operated by Zwischenzug Solutions SAS. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use the CaptainTandem web application and browser extension (collectively, the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
Account information
When you register, we collect your email address and a hashed password (we never store your password in plain text). If you sign in with Google OAuth, we receive your name and email from Google.
Captured content
The browser extension lets you clip web pages, articles, PDFs, and YouTube videos into your CaptainTandem inbox. When you trigger a capture, the extension extracts the readable text from the page you are currently viewing and sends it — along with the page URL and title — to our servers. We do not collect browsing history; content is only transmitted when you explicitly activate the extension on a page.
Usage data
We collect standard server logs (IP address, browser user-agent, timestamps) for security monitoring and debugging. We do not sell or share these logs with third parties.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and operate the Service (storing and organising your captures and tasks).
- To process your captured content with AI models (currently Google Gemini and/or DeepSeek) in order to classify, summarise, and triage it on your behalf.
- To send transactional emails (e.g., password reset, task confirmations).
- To improve the Service and fix bugs.
3. Browser Extension Permissions
The CaptainTandem extension requests the following permissions:
- activeTab / scripting — to read the content of the page you are on when you click the extension button. The extension never runs in the background on pages you haven't explicitly activated it on.
- storage — to store your API authentication token locally in the browser so you don't have to log in on every use.
- host_permissions (<all_urls>) — because you may clip any page from any website, the extension needs permission to inject the content-extraction script on arbitrary URLs. No data is ever collected without your explicit action.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:
- AI processing providers (Google, DeepSeek) — solely to process content you have captured. Their APIs are invoked server-side; your data is not used to train their public models under our current agreements.
- Infrastructure providers — hosting, email delivery, and logging services under data-processing agreements.
- Law enforcement — if required by applicable law.
5. Data Retention
Your captures, tasks, and account data are retained for as long as your account exists. You may delete individual captures at any time from the inbox. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us at the address below.
6. Security
All data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS. Authentication tokens are stored in
chrome.storage.local (extension) and server-side sessions are short-lived
and signed. We apply the principle of least privilege to all internal services.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (EU/EEA residents under GDPR, California residents under CCPA), you may have the right to access, rectify, or erase your personal data, to object to processing, and to data portability. To exercise these rights, email us at privacy@captaintandem.com.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. We will notify you by posting the new version at this URL and updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
